5 Reasons Why Your Business Needs Custom Website [ As a service-based business]

So, one of the first things you do before each move is to make sure you’re not committing a blunder.

Well, when it comes to your next website project, there are some common blunders that people make all the time that can easily be avoided.

What follows are some classic blunders to avoid on your next website project.

Opportunity Cost analysis for a service business

Making money is one of the main objectives of a company website.

However, achieving a positive return on investment isn’t enough. What you really want to do is get the highest average return on your investment out of all of your options. This is referred to as “opportunity expense.”

Let’s say a company makes $300,000 per year in the service Business, spends $2,500 on a new website, and then makes $325,000 the next year. That could be considered a significant victory.

However, what if the same company instead invested $25,000 on their new and Updated website but was able to produce $400,000 with services offered thanks to an even better design and improved SEO traffic?

The more expensive website has a higher return on investment and overall nett income in this situation.

Here’s another illustration. A new company generates no income, spends $10,000 on a new website, generates $50,000 in revenues a year later, and then plans to shut down.

Alternatively, for $1500, this same company could set up a premade WordPress Templates, spend $10,000 on direct outreach, and produce $100,000 in revenue the next year, allowing them to stay in business.

Which kind of Business is a custom website right for?

Custom websites are ideal for Service companies that have a well-defined business model and revenue stream. In most cases, these businesses already have a website that is either obsolete, unattractive, or both. Because of its unprofessional look and feel, the current website is a barrier to business growth and can deter potential prospects from approaching the company (and converting into leads).

A custom website design could be extremely beneficial to a company like this. The new website is expected to generate a quick return on investment, paying for itself in less than a year.

What kind of business a custom website not right for?

A new company with an unknown revenue source or business model is not a good candidate for a custom website. Unless they are well-capitalized and can go without income for an extended period of time, they would be better off investing the money elsewhere, especially in marketing and sales.

So, What exactly is a custom website?

When discussing blogs, I like to use the example of a designer. Yes, you can purchase a dress off the rack for $500 at women’s Wearhouse. You can also go to designer wear and pay upwards of $10,000 for a dress. What’s the difference between the two? The dress’s material and fit aren’t the only factors. It’s the statement the dress makes.

Hmmm…Why not use a pre-made template anyway?

As previously said, the most important aspect is opportunity cost. Is it possible that a custom website would generate more overall business than a pre-made template? Then you should go with a custom choice. If not, a pre-made Template should suffice.

Pre-made models remind me of DIY types of furniture. The architecture and the design aren’t bad, at least on the surface. The hidden costs, on the other hand, are something that most people overlook.

Hidden costs of a pre-made template

Some top Furniture companies are able to charge such low prices because they pass on a large portion of the labour and transportation costs to their consumers. Instead of paying for furniture assemblers or delivery trucks, these companies ask their customers to do so.

When it comes to using a pre-made template, the same rules apply. For example, if a freelancer is paid $50 per hour and it takes them 20 hours to set up your website, you’ve spent $1,000.

Another issue is that the Freelancer might not be just a designer, not a Marketer. They may not be familiar with SEO or online marketing. As a result, the website they create could differ significantly from what you might have received from a professional Agency.

Wrapping up!

It is not for all to have a  Customised website. “If it doesn’t make dollars, it doesn’t make sense,” the saying goes…

Always keep in mind that the best choice for you and your company is the one with the lowest total opportunity cost.
